The Name of Jesus has real Power!
Recently Ted Evans recorded his latest CD Album “Taste & See”.
One particular song caught my attention which I have posted for you below.
Looking back over a lifetime of experience I have come to realise that the name of Jesus has greater power than we realise.
The Bible says: Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved – Acts 4:12 (KJV).
I remember when I was a young boy growing up in India where my parents served as missionaries.
I would often see my mother & father praying together in the countryside and invoking the name of Jesus.
Interestingly it became a great source of comfort to me as I happily played with Indian children knowing that Jesus was nearby.
To this day I am convinced that it was their prayers in the name of Jesus that was the power or shield of protection over my young life as I innocently sought the friendship of village children.
Even in their latter years I would often witness them calling on the name of Jesus as they lay in bed or sat in their lounge room praying together.
My mother particularly in her 80s would repeat over and over the name of Jesus in prayer when she seemingly had nothing else to say.
I can still remember the sight her tiny face turned upward as she called on the name of Jesus.
It was my mother who instructing me when I was a small boy to call on the name of Jesus if I ever felt I was in physical danger or in harms way.
She left me in no doubt that there is power in the name of Jesus.
I was only 12 or 13 when I first used the name of Jesus in defence when I felt trapped in a dangerous and fearful situation.

The scripture of course clearly teaches that Jesus’ name is above every other name.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philip 2:9-11 (KJV).
As a pentecostal I quickly learned Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Which reminds me of another time I faced imminent danger.
I happened to be preaching in an open-air service in the village of Malamba one night in Papua New Guinea, when a deranged man threatened to kill me.
My congregation suddenly disappeared into the jungle and called out to me to flee.
I had no time to think, as through the darkness this snorting madman came prancing toward me with a lump of a burning log in one hand and a spear in the other.
He let fly with the fire bomb which thankfully missed…… With his spear poised he danced forward to thrust it into my body.
I instinctively called out in a loud voice in the name of Jesus.
Suddenly he fell at my feet as if he had been struck down by an invisible force.
I knelt beside him noticing he was eating dirt and frothing at the mouth.
I again called out in the Name of Jesus and he became silent.
Later he told me a voice inside instructed him to kill me.
You see the Bible teaches that the enemy trembles at the name of Jesus.
And behold, they shrieked and screamed, What have You to do with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come to torment us before the appointed time? Matthew 8:29 (AMP)
The devils trembled at the presence of Jesus.
On another occasion I was walking through a remote area when I came across an old man who was sitting naked in the front of his humble village home, which was not unusual in those days.
I immediately wondered to myself ‘how is it possible for such an old man to get ‘saved’ or come to know Jesus personally?’
How is it possible for a people steeped in animism to be saved?
Then I remembered the scripture that indicates the power in the name of Jesus is invoked through faith.
“And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.” Acts 3:16 (KJV)
In a silent prayer I called on Jesus to help me communicate.
Through an interpreter friend who was with me, I began to tell him about Jesus.
Upon my return journey I called in to see the old fellow.
He seemed unusually excited to see me and kept repeating in his native language “Yesus God nan yan”,”Yesus God nan yan!” – “Jesus is the Son of God”. “Jesus is the Son of God”.
I have no doubt he received a supernatural revelation of Jesus and was born again.
You see when you use the Name of Jesus something spiritual takes place.

I spoke to a guy once, who was using the name of Christ in vain, some would say in blasphemy.
I asked him why he didn’t use the name of Buddha or Krishna or Muhammed?
To give him his dues he actually got back to me later and told me in his own words “It didn’t work”!
You make of that what you like, but it just reinforced to me that even in blasphemy there is power in the name of Jesus but it needs to be used correctly to bless and not to curse.
Just remember you are best qualified to use His name only if you are born again.
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.
And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.
And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified Acts 19:13-17 (KJV).
Yes the Name of Jesus has real Power!
Another story that illustrates the power of the Gospel and the real power of Jesus to communicate with ‘unbelievers’ is that of Kris Kristofferson.
He described it as a “profound religious experience”!
I never cease to be amazed how the Holy Spirit cuts through the agnostic’s or unbeliever’s heart and leads them to eternal life …. even when they have no intension of submitting or even understand what is happening to them.

In conclusion!
Recently I was listening to this Jesus Culture video and was reminded that no matter what situation you find yourself in, always remember there is power in the name of Jesus to break every chain.
SO KEEP PRAYING FOR YOUR LOVED ONES ….. PUT THEM IN THE HANDS OF JESUS. ….. THE HOLY SPIRIT IS ABLE AND IS WORKING ON THEM!
